Regulatory bodies are giving more and more emphasis to human factors (HF), particularly with regard to Internet of Health devices that are expected to be used by naive users in the home environment, as opposed to trained healthcare professionals. Human factors studies need to achieve the probative rigor of more traditional safety and efficacy studies. This session will describe simple, practical, and sound methods to help engineers, human factors experts, clinical staff, and others bring the probative value of their studies up to par with more traditional clinical studies.

Topics to be covered include:

  • The importance of a sound statistical basis for human factors studies
  • Understanding the different statistical needs for formative vs. summative studies
  • Pragmatic criteria for conducting human factors studies
  • How to explain the significance of human factors study results
