An amorphous-ceramic electrolyte in which fast-moving Li+ or Na+ cations coexist with slower-moving electric dipoles introduces a new physical phenomenon when used in a electrochemical cell. The new phenomenon enables realization of a novel cell design for an all-solid-state low-cost; safe rechargeable battery cell that is capable of storing a large volumetric density of stored electric power at a fast charge/discharge rate for over 15,000 charge/discharge cycles.
